You can recycle items in every room
Most of us do a pretty good job at recycling . It ’ s pretty easy to place a container to collect recycling right beside the trash can in the kitchen . We collect and rinse steel and aluminum cans and plastic jars and bottles . We break down cereal boxes and toss the junk mail in , but sometimes it ’ s easy to forget to recycle when we are in other parts of the house . As you become better at collecting your household recycling , here are a few ways to “ up your game ” and become even better at recycling .
The most forgotten room is probably the bathroom . Plastic shampoo , conditioner , lotion , bathroom cleaner or body wash bottles are usually recyclable . Empty them out as best as you can and rinse them a couple times before putting them in the recycling bin . Pump soap dispensers also are recyclable . Simply remove the pump and throw that

part away , then rinse the container for recycling .
Empty plastic medicine , vitamin or supplement bottles can definitely be recycled . Bar soap boxes , tissue boxes , feminine product boxes , empty toilet paper rolls and even the paperboard part of the packaging of items such as makeup , ear swabs or dental floss also can be recycled ( throw the plastic part away ).
Another thing often overlooked is the plastic film from cotton balls or toilet tissue packaging . Plastic film should not be placed in the recycling bin , but it can be included with your plastic grocery bags and taken back to the grocery store for recycling .
Currently , Buehler ’ s Food Market accepts plastic film for recycling .
Moving on to the living room and bedrooms , you may find things like catalogs , magazines and newspaper — all easily recyclable . Don ’ t worry about glossy paper or staples as those do not impede the paper recycling process . Soft-back books that cannot be donated also are acceptable . Donate hardback books , or if they are unsuitable , remove the covers and then the pages can be placed in the recycling . Don ’ t forget tissue boxes , shoe boxes , junk mail and scrap paper .
Lastly , batteries from the remote control or game controllers can be recycled at the “ Big Green Boxes ” at the Coshocton and West Lafayette post offices and libraries .
How about the laundry room ? Plastic detergent , softener or laundry boost containers should be emptied and rinsed before recycling . Dryer sheet boxes or laundry detergent sheet paperboard boxes can be recycled as well . Clothes hangers ? Neither plastic nor wire clothes hangers are accepted in recycling bins . If they are in good shape , donate to thrift stores , Goodwill , clothing drives or to those holding garage sales .

Contamination of “ good ” recycling is the number-one issue facing recycling facilities and may be causing some recycling to be taken to the landfill instead of being able to be used again .
