Maddie Larrison , 2019 West Lafayette homecoming junior queen , knew her community-service projects needed to benefit the animals at the Coshocton County Animal Shelter .
“ It just makes me so sad that the animals don ’ t have homes . I think every animal deserves a home where they are loved and safe ,” she said .
Her family adopted their dogs — Bella , about four years ago , and Cooper , almost five years ago — from the shelter .
On July 2 Larrison set up a stand outside the Ridgewood General Store and sold water , juice boxes and popcorn . All of the donations would benefit the animal shelter . Shelby Theatres donated all of the popcorn for her stand .
“ Mr . and Mrs . Davis own the store and were nice enough to let her set up here ,” said Shelly Larrison , Maddie ’ s mom .
Her Popcorn for the Pups stand isn ’ t the only way she helps the animals at the shelter . Although COVID has affected her projects , she was able to collect cans and donated that money to the shelter .

For her birthday she asked friends and family to make donations to the shelter instead of buying gifts for her .
“ The shelter needs cleaning supplies , paper towels , dog and cat treats and food , stuff like that ,” she said .
Larrison has enjoyed her time as junior homecoming
queen . “ I liked meeting new people and making friends . And it was fun telling people about West Lafayette at festivals I got to go to ,” she said .
She has a few more festivals to attend before a new junior queen will be crowned at the end of July .
“ I want to thank the General Store for letting me do this today , the chamber of commerce and my queen director Shanna Weaver . And I want to invite everyone to come to the West Lafayette homecoming July 29-31 . There will be a parade , bounce houses and vendors .”
