SUMMER from Page 18

Walking all over town is something Lisa Teschner remembers . “ Getting pizza at Pizza Point and eating it at Bancroft while watching the guys play basketball , hiking on McCoy ’ s land ( up the hill at the top of Walnut Street ), Colonial Swim Club , Paul ’ s and The Freeze , and the dances at the youth center .”
Sheila Seward spent her summers at band camp , cruising Main Street , Canal Days , Colonial Swim Club , summertime sleepovers and movies in the plaza . “ Good memories ,” she said .
Ken Wood has good memories of fishing at Wills Creek , biking over to Lake Park , playing baseball , sleeping in the backyard with friends and making corn-stalk forts .
Linda Hepner remembers that summers meant work when you lived in the country . She took care of their garden , the chickens and fence lines . “ We had one crazy cow that was never happy being fenced in . There was 250 acres of pasture , and she always wanted to be somewhere else . The good , old days , I was 13 years old , driving an old three-speed international truck with no tags on the highway for about 5 miles , down to the river , with my little 8-year-old brother unsupervised .”
Susie Smailes said , “ We used to have record hops . Someone would bring their record player outside to the garage and have pop , chips / snacks and dance the night away .”
Betty Bethel said , “ I can remember in the ‘ 60s going to the Star Lite Drive-in with my mom and big brother . He would drive my dad ’ s old pickup truck , and all of us kids would get in the back — so much fun .”
Jane Wilt Whitworth remembers walking down the motorcycle path from Ridgewood Drive above heated hill down to the other end of Ridgewood on her way to The Freeze . “ I think that people had ridden there up and down it . This was the early ‘ 70s before the houses were built at the end of Ridgewood Drive .

Ellen Dunlevy and Karen Royer both remember going to the youth center for dances .
Royer said , “ Going there on Friday evenings
Jessica Paisley Funeral Director was a must — lots of fun , dancing and a lot of the guys would play pool . Swimming in the lake at Lake Park was the place to be every day if possible . At least in my world it was . Another fun thing to do was the huge trampolines located across from the Beer Dock .”
Sharon Thomas said because she grew up on a farm , chores came first . When everything was done , she said , “ I rode my bike up the road to play with my girlfriend , if she had her chores done . At night , catching fireflies in mason jars with holes in the lids was fun . Attended church camp every summer and was a counselor when older , plus Farm Bureau Youth . Great childhood and teen years growing up on a farm on SR 643 .”

and work shirts to halter tops . And guys , when you squealed your tires going past Wayne ’ s , us girls rolled our eyes ,” Marla Livingston said .
On a final note , Mike Anson said , “ Very seriously , I toured the country on a motorcycle in the 1970s and hadn ’ t yet encountered Coshocton , but once I did , I wanted to stay . It ’ s one of the most beautiful places I ’ ve ever lived , and I include my three years in the Caribbean . I ’ ve had to leave again , and it makes me very sad because I feel like Coshocton is my home even though I only lived there for a few years . I have to say , though , that many of you may not know how lucky you are . I have lived a blessed life and have toured the country and the world , and Coshocton is among the best places I ever visited or lived .”
