WWII veteran is set to celebrate her 100th

Coshocton resident and WWII veteran Ethel Goss will celebrate her 100th birthday on Jan . 13 .

Goss was born in Binghamton , New York . Her father and mother relocated to Auburn , New York to form a printing business . She dropped out of high school to care for her ailing father so her mother could run the printing business .

The year 1943 saw her enlist as a WAC . Her training led to a deployment to England . She was assigned to various jobs , one of which placed her in a printing facility . Her immediate supervisor was Coshocton resident Army Sgt . Charles Goss .

At the conclusion of WWII in Europe , Ethel Goss was discharged and returned briefly to Auburn , then to Coshocton . Charles Goss spent a brief time in Germany before discharge and his return to Coshocton .

Ethel and Charles Goss were married at Trinity Episcopal Church in Coshocton in February 1946 .

Charles Goss was employed at the Coshocton Tribune as a pressman until his death in 1966 .

Ethel Goss stayed in Coshocton and worked various jobs but preferred being a seamstress and drapery maker . She enjoyed her tenure as the co-owner of Fabric Nook on Main Street .

Ethel Goss still lives independently .

The pandemic limits celebration of this event to cards and phone calls . Her apartment is currently limited to essential caregivers . A banner will be placed on her balcony .

Technology grant able to help court system through the pandemic

When the Coshocton Common Pleas Court was awarded a technology grant from the Ohio Supreme Court in 2018 , no one could have predicted the benefit it would provide when facing an unforeseen pandemic .

The grant award of $ 212,750 enabled the court and clerk of court to upgrade their case management system , which allows attorneys to file pleadings remotely . The courthouse has been closed to the public much of the year and may remain closed for at least the near future due

to COVID-19 . Electronic filing ( e-filing ) allows attorneys a new and safe way to file documents with the clerk of courts office . Since its implementation it has been utilized for filing more than 1,809 times .

This upgrade also allows images to be scanned and saved to case dockets . Images of any public record filed after the system upgrade are now available on the online docket clerk of courts website , which may be accessed at any time from any location with internet service .
