Formed as a private foundation in 1985 , the Schooler Family Foundation was founded and guided through its early years by longtime Coshocton residents , Seward and Edith Schooler . Now the foundation is served by the second and third generations of family and community .
The foundation continues a long-standing commitment of support for the areas of economic development , environment , energy , education , human service , aging , religion , healthcare , recreation , science and medicine , historic preservation , leadership , civic engagement and citizenship , arts and culture , community development , and the growth and thriving of philanthropy and nonprofit voluntary organizations .
Funding is directed toward a range of philanthropic purposes including annual operating budgets , specific programs and projects , equipment , capital facilities and buildings , endowment , and capacitybuilding .
The foundation also maintains a policy of reviewing and responding to emergencies , natural and human disasters , and unpredictable and sudden community challenges .
The Schooler Family Foundation welcomes inquiries from two types of organizations : organizations that have , since 1985 , received funding from the foundation and organizations located in or benefiting the residents and communities of Coshocton County , Frazeysburg and Perryton .
The foundation has one grant-making period in 2021 , beginning Sept . 1 . Organizations so qualifying are to submit an initial letter of inquiry . Letters of inquiry are to be received by the foundation on or before Sept . 1 . Following review and consideration of all letters of inquiry , the foundation ’ s trustees will , no later than Sept . 15 , request formal proposals from the selected organizations . Requested proposals are to be received on or before Oct . 15 , and funding will be determined on or before Nov . 1 .
Letters of inquiry are to be no more than one page in length and should include the following information : name of organization , employer identification number and date of currently valid tax-exempt status determination letter or application for recognition of exemption , Form 1023 ; name , mailing address , telephone number and email address of the organization and its principal contact person ; mission and purpose of the organization ; general summary statement about organization ’ s current needs including a description of the programs , projects or purposes for which the organization specifically seeks support ; total financial cost of the programs or projects for which funding is sought ; amount of financial support for the programs or projects to be provided by the organization and by other donors or foundations ; and amount of financial support and other assistance being sought from the Schooler Family Foundation .

The Schooler Family Foundation , in 2020 , granted funds totaling $ 269,081 to 13 organizations : American Red Cross – East Central Ohio Chapter for its emergency response and preparedness and bloodcollection services programs in Coshocton County , Clary Garden Foundation for construction of an open-air pavilion , Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices for renovation of its Flight School entrance , Feral Mountain for its rural Coshocton County Cat Trap Neuter Return program , Junior Achievement of
North Central Ohio for its Coshocton County Schools programs , Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges for its Ohio Scholars program benefiting Coshocton County scholars ,
Ohio State University Foundation - The Ohio State University Medical Center for its Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellowship program , Perry Township Board of Trustees for construction of a shelter house at its community and emergency response building in Licking County , Pilot Dogs for its Student Scholarship program , Roscoe Village Foundation for its visitor education project , Salvation Army for its emergency social services program benefiting Coshocton County residents , Skydog Sanctuary for its pasture restoration and fencing projects , and United Way of Coshocton County for its Non-Profit COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund .
