Ridgewood treats senior citizens to afternoon out
By Josie Sellers

WEST LAFAYETTE – Ridgewood High School extended the
holiday season just a little longer so it could still host the
annual senior citizens luncheon.
On Thursday, Jan. 9 students and staff treated senior
citizens in the community to an afternoon out. The
school’s drama department performed “It’s A Wonderful
Life” while student council members helped prepare the
cafeteria for lunch.
“I love helping and seeing the older people in the
community come out,” said junior Abby Harding. “They
are always excited and it’s nice to know we helped make
their day.
She and her classmate Maddy Colvin helped set out
desserts while their special guests enjoyed the play.
“I like talking to the older people and seeing them
smile,” Colvin said.

Bobbe and Doug Owens had to miss the play this year,
but were able to come for lunch.
“It’s nice to come see everybody,” Bobbe said.
They do not have any grandchildren at the school, but
their children did attend Ridgewood.
“We come to support the kids and visit with people,”
Doug said.
Student council advisors Savannah Gress and Rebec-
ca Wells got the students in the cafeteria organized and
gave them tips on serving their guests.
“We do this to get community members into the
school,” Gress said. “They get to see the students in
action with the play and the student council members
who help serve.”
In addition to lunch, those in attendance also had
the chance to win door prizes. Several were donated by
area businesses and others were handmade by student
council members.
