Giddiness dominates the day
That was certainly an interesting week . Where do we go from here seems to be looking at things mildly , but I think taking a longterm view with a glass half full of optimism for the new administration is warranted and perhaps even necessary for where we are right now .
Bringing the nation “ back together ” will be a challenge and will take time if it can even be accomplished without something to bridge the wide divide . Now that is what we are being told — that there is this huge gap in how we think . Is this true ? Or is there some common ground that can form the foundation of resolving at least smaller matters until trust is rebuilt to move on to the larger ones ?
Mistrust of the national media seems to be one of the key issues of the day . Whether fair or not , it is where we are and must be faced head-on . How to solve

this ? That is a question for someone a lot smarter than me . Perhaps one thing all of us could do is stop listening to the diatribes of a decidedly slanted media — regardless of which side you are on . The national media has done themselves no favors over the past four years , and it probably reaches back into the Obama administration and further if we wanted to do that .
The approval rating for Congress is at an all-time low , and hopefully this can start ticking up slowly but surely over the next few years . Again , approaching the future with optimism could help all of us going forward .
OK , you ’ re probably tired of my drooling over all of this — let ’ s talk about some fun stuff . How about those Cleveland Browns ! Is it possible this team has turned the corner and Browns fans are headed for brighter days and a brighter future in the seasons ahead ? It was truly a surreal victory and first quarter . It ’ s time to take on the Chiefs . Don ’ t count the Browns out , but it will be a real challenge to say the least .
As I write this week ’ s column ( Monday ), the kickoff is only hours away until the Buckeyes take on the Crimson Tide in the national championship game . Can the Buckeyes play as well as they did against Clemson ? That was without a doubt the best game they have played all year — to this point . The question is can they play that well again or was motivation to beat the Tigers the overarching factor in that game ? I guess we will know in a few hours .
What exactly are the Indians thinking ? It ’ s obviously not to put a winning team on the field . Who are these players they traded two of the best for ? That ’ s what I thought too . Lindor and Carrasco ? Two of the most popular players on the roster ? It has to be a financial move versus one of logic . Someone out there in Beacon reader land probably knows a lot more about this than me . Seems like I say that a lot anymore .
Perhaps it is just the giddiness of the Browns winning a playoff game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh ! That ’ s what it is . Just giddiness . That ’ s my story and I ’ m sticking to it . Thanks for reading The Beacon ; we appreciate it . Spring is on the way .
