TUESDAY , JAN . 12 , 1971 This afternoon the first jet will be landing at Richard Downing Airport . William G . Stewart and Guy F . McCracken , president of Cyclops and Universal Cyclops ’ Special Steel Division respectively , will be arriving aboard the company jet to speak to members of the Manufacturers Division of the C of C .
TUESDAY , JAN . 13 , 1981 Coshocton has lost Dr . Robert E . Hopkins , a community physician for the past 50 years . Dr . Hopkins ran his practice out of 600 Main St ., and graduated from Duane Academy in 1920 and from Dennison University and Western Reserve University School of Medicine in ‘ 24 and ‘ 28 respectively . He was a member of a number of local medical groups , including being a former staff of Coshocton County Memorial Hospital . He was also a member of the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge , and served as honorary deacon of the Coshocton First Baptist Church . Dr . Hopkins is survived by his wife the former Ireta Goodrich , Robert E . Hopkins Jr . and six grandchildren .
WEDNESDAY , JAN . 9 , 1991 Heavy flooding has left 131 stranded in the Plainfield area and nearly 300 affected . Monday saw the community come together and build a food bank to aid those hit by the flooding , but more help is needed . County Emergency Management Office director Jean Honabarger has asked the commissioners to declare a state of emergency , which would open the county to state and federal aid . Resource manager of the Mohawk Dam , Valerie Krenicky , said that water is being released from the dam ’ s pool as fast as permitted , but it remains at 62 feet . Similarly , project engineer Victor Grewell said the Wills Creek dam has dropped a foot since Monday .
TUESDAY , JAN . 9 , 2001 Tim Rogers has taken his post as sheriff . The first fresh face for 20 years , he was voted in over Sheriff Dave Corbett . A 1972 River View graduate , Rogers has 13 years of law enforcement experience . “ Every day I want to look at how we provide services . I want to increase services , so we are truly a 24 / 7 operation ,” the new sheriff said . One of his first acts was to promote Jon Mosier to the rank of captain and appoint James Crawford as administrative lieutenant and Scott Mast as lieutenant of the road division .
