Kids adopt book buddies

By Josie Sellers
Children age 3-12 are invited to come to the library ’ s children ’ s room during the month of February to adopt a book buddy to love and read to .
“ We are hoping to encourage a love of reading , which is always the goal ,” said Jenn Williams , marketing coordinator at the Coshocton Public Library . “ Hopefully the stuffed animals will encourage them to want to read more . The youth services department got the inspiration for the book buddy idea at a youth services meeting of the State Library of Ohio .”
The stuffed animals were purchased through the Friends of the Library budget , and there is a variety of them for children to choose from . They also will receive an adoption certificate and a reading log .
“ They will have to keep track of every time they read or are read to ,” Williams said . “ At the end of the month ( of February ), they can turn their log in for a chance to win a prize .”
At least five hours of reading for the month of February must be completed . Books at school can count toward your total .
“ The prize is a reading teepee ,” Williams said . “ It ’ s a little tent for them to enjoy with their stuffed animal .”

We ’ re ready for the big game and more than ready for spring to come

Spring is less than two months away . In fact , if we use the date of this issue of The Beacon , Feb . 4 , as the date to count from , we have a mere 46 days until spring . I am confident when I say this that all of us are ready and waiting for a new season to bring warmer weather , hope of a better year and a continued successful battle against COVID-19 .
According to several sources , the number of new cases in Ohio this past weekend was the lowest since the beginning of November . This is certainly encouraging news . And as the vaccine continues to be rolled

out and distributed , more people being vaccinated will reduce new cases even more rapidly . It is possible the worst of this is past , but sadly , we have lost many , many wonderful people and members of our community during this pandemic .
Are you ready for the Super Bowl ? Or should it be called the Brady Bowl ? Right now , the pundits have the Kansas City Chiefs as a threepoint favorite over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . But wait , this is home field for the Buccaneers , the first time in Super Bowl history that a team has participated in the Super Bowl at home . And it is Tom Brady . Tom Brady ! I believe playing in his 10th Super Bowl .
My prediction : Buccaneers 31 and Chiefs 24 . I think it will either be really close or a blowout one way or the other . Let ’ s hope the refs let ‘ em play — no cheesy fourth quarter or “ missed ” helmet-to-helmet hits in the endzone . Yes , let ’ s be honest here folks , that missed call quite possibly cost the Browns a win over the Chiefs .
Disagree ? Let me know .

There were several new startups last year , the year before and the year before that .
