United Way working toward campaign goal

United Way , local businesses and the community make a difference when they work together . United Way collects donations in the local cooperative workplace giving drives through major corporate and individual gifts and through individual donations and other giving efforts .
Because of the pandemic , this year ’ s fundraisers had to be postponed . “ Our . 5k , which is a spoof on a 5k , was postponed until fall and now extended to the spring . In May we will be able to have it outside . It will be the first annual . 5k ,” said
Lyn Mizer , director of United Way .
The organization is currently at 65 % of its goal , which is more than $ 211,000 .
“ It ’ s difficult to compare year to year ,” Mizer said . “ Different businesses donate at different times . Last year we made $ 325,000 , which was 105 % of our goal . Half of our pledges are from individual payroll deductions . The total for this year won ’ t be until next spring 2022 . We make our goal every year because the donations continue to trickle in . There is no deadline for donating money . We will continue

Mizer said in August they are hoping to bring back the Taste of Coshocton . “ We ’ re just playing it by ear this year ,” she said .
Taste of Coshocton showcases local restaurants and caterers . Participants are treated to a variety of different food and drink samples provided by local restaurants and caterers . In the past 400- 500 people attended this event .
“ Restaurants and caterers have been hit hard by this pandemic ,” Mizer said .
The annual awards ceremony traditionally is a breakfast where people could come early and United Way could present the awards . This year it will be an online video . McWane Ductile is the United Way Corporate Sponsor for this campaign . The next corporate sponsor will be announced when all businesses are in .

“ Our corporate sponsors purpose to defray the costs of things like paper and postage , etcetera , so that we can put that money back into the community and we won ’ t have to use donations ,” Mizer said .

“ We are locally governed ,” Mizer said . “ The board of directors decides what is supported based on the need . We are very grateful for all the help . We ’ re honored to work with the people of Coshocton . It is a good collaborative community . The United Way has been serving Coshocton for over 80 years .”
