RIVER VIEW Lady Bears wrap up season
On Feb . 22 the River View girls bowling team ’ s season ended at the district tournament at Legacy Lanes . The Lady Bears finished fourth in the district , only two spots away from the state tournament . This brings to close a season where the Lady Bears went 15-1 in regular-season matches , finished no lower than fourth in tournaments and won the TCC Baker Invite . They finished fifth at the sectional tournament to move to districts .
The Lady Bears Bakers were led at districts by freshman Kaylie Bryan with a 455 series and 13thplace finish , senior Joni Winland with a 441 series and 18th-place finish , freshman Karley Stocker with a 430 series and 22nd-place finish , and junior Maeve Gentile

On Feb . 21 River View High School ’ s Lydia Black signed her letter of intent to run cross country and track at Muskingum University .
“ It ’ s labeled as No . 1 in nursing , and that ’ s what I want to go for ,” she said . “ Muskingum also is close to home , so I can come back and support my old teammates .”
While in high school , Black has been a member of the Letterman ’ s Club ,
OMUN , Teen Leadership Corps , National Honor Society , 4-H , Coshocton County Youth Leadership , cross country , track and field , and indoor track . She has earned an academic award three times . Through cross country and track , Black has earned many awards including All- MVL , All-MVL Academic and All-East District Academic and was a regional qualifier in track . She was named cross country MVP and team captain , as well as with a 429 series and 24th-place finish .
The Lady Bears banquet will be Sunday , March 10 at 5 p . m . at Legacy Lanes and Lounge .
Addy advances to state , girls relay makes podium
Ten River View swimmers competed in the OHSAA Central-Southeast District Division II Championship Meet at Ohio University on Feb . 16 . The top eight in each event were awarded medals , with the top three in individual events and the top two in relays earning automatic state tournament berths , with the remaining at-large spots seeded by time from all four districts .
Senior Colin Addy advanced to the state prelim in two events by placing fifth and breaking his previous school record in the 50 freestyle ( 21.68 ) and sixth in the 100 free ( 47.88 ) while breaking the school record held by Reas Pepper . The girls 400 free relay group of freshmen Riley Gottardi and Lily Grewell , sophomore Britany Hammond , and junior Ally Fischer also made the podium for the Black Bears , placing seventh overall ( 4:09.07 ).

Black wasn ’ t necessarily looking to continue her athletic career in college but is glad it worked out that way at Muskingum .
“ They are very academicfocused ,” she said . “ They know academics come first . I met a couple of team members too when I went there for my first college visit and liked that they remembered me when I came for indoor .”
Teammates are very important to Black .
“ I really like my teammates . That ’ s why I came back in the first place ,” she said .
At one point in her high school career , Black was diagnosed with a hole in her heart and lost a season .
“ Gwenna Neal , who teaches in Akron now , gave me a pep talk and got me back into it ,” Black said . “ Enjoy your teammates because they become like a second family .”
Black is the daughter of Kory and Kirsten McPeck .

Additionally for the girls , the 200 medley relay group of Fischer , Grewell , Gottardi and senior Kam McGinnis placed 12th ( 2:07.54 ); Fischer was 12th ( 1:09.17 ) and Gottardi 13th ( 1:09.40 ) in the 100 backstroke ; Gottardi was 14th ( 1:07.53 ) in the 100 butterfly ; Grewell was 19th ( 2:35.73 ) and Fischer 22nd ( 2:38.03 ) in the 200 individual medley ; and Grewell was 23rd ( 1:20.49 ) and junior Kynsingten McMasters 24th ( 1:20.69 ) in the 100 breaststroke .
For the boys team , the relay group of sophomore Kyle Roach , freshman JT Allison , junior Jamison Adams and Addy placed 14th in both the 200 free ( 1:41.40 ) and the 400 free ( 3:50.98 ). In addition to Addy ’ s medaling in individual events , Adams was 15th ( 59.75 ) in the 100 back , and Allison was 28th ( 6:13.29 ) in the 500 free .
The Ohio High School Athletic Association held the Div . II State Championship swim meets at the C . T . Branin Natatorium Feb . 22 and 23 .
