Bakersville Homecoming Royalty plans fundraiser
Bakersville Homecoming Royalty is looking to continue the program for another year . This program was funded by sponsors of Bakersville . To make this first year possible , it took $ 1,300 . This does not include the $ 500 scholarship . The $ 500 scholarship has been donated by John and Elizabeth Ridenour in Memory of Tyler and Alexis Ridenour for the 2023 Bakersville queen . They have recently said they are going to continue to honor the scholarship for the 2024 queen .
The queen will receive her scholarship once she has been accepted into a college and shows proof of her acceptance and schedule of classes . Then the check will be sent to that college . She will not receive the money personally . The $ 1,300 was spent on sashes , crowns , flowers , car magnets , bracelets , charms , an emcee and care boxes for each court member .
“ So much volunteer work went on in the background to make it a successful night ,” said Renee Stein , who helps coordinate the program . “ I just want to thank the Bakersville community and businesses for making it possible in 2023 . The last royalty in Bakersville was 1974 , and it only lasted that year . We don ’ t want to be a one and done royalty ; we want to continue for many years .”
“ Our current account for going into 2024 is $ 0 , but we have a lot of heart , work ethic and determination to raise the money we need to make 2024 happen .”
Renee Stein
Royalty programs teach leadership and responsibility and encourage community involvement and service projects . The court travels around Ohio and promotes its small town , inviting others to come to the homecoming .
“ Our current account for going into 2024 is $ 0 , but we have a lot of heart , work ethic and determination to raise the money we need to make 2024 happen ,” Stein said .
The group ’ s first community outreach is the inaugural Bakersville Royalty Soup Dinner on Saturday , March 16 from 4 p . m . until the food is gone . The menu includes chili , vegetable , tortelli , chicken taco , Cheddar broccoli , chicken noodle and cheesy potato soups , as well as rolls , cheese trays and dessert . This will all be for donation at the door .
“ This is open to the public , and we would love to serve each and every one of you on March 16 at Bakersville Community Church , starting at 4 p . m .,” Stein said .
The Bakersville Community Church is located at 28164 County Road 97 in Bakersville . Checks can be made out to Bakersville Community Park ( Memo : Royalty ).
