February 26, 2020 The Beacon • 25 – MARCH 4, 2020 – “The Broken Heart” Pastor Steve Bentley Central Christian Church The second Lenten Lunch will be on Wednesday, March 4 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., in the fellowship hall of The Presbyterian Church, 142 N. Fourth St., across from the courtsquare in Coshocton. “Matters of the Heart” is the theme for the 51st series of the Coshocton County Lenten Lunches, and they will continue each File Dee Smith, Donna Rae Young and Denny Tumblin stopped for a photo while making preparations for day two of the 2019 annual Tiverton Institute. Tiverton Institute returns The Tiverton Institute will be held Wed nesday and Thursday, March 4-5 at Tiverton Center at County Road 20 and state Route 206. Wednesday’s activities include a peach-pie baking contest for adults and sugar- cookie contest for youth age 16 and under. Speakers for the day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Brad Perkins on “Eagles in Ohio” and Tammi Rogers f rom Coshocton Count y Recycling. At 1 p.m. Megan Baugh- man from the Coshocton Public Library will speak, and at 2 p.m. attendees will hear from Johnny Apple- seed, Bill Jones. Then at 7 p.m. music will be provided by the River View choir, and a presentation will be done by deputy Dave Stone and his K9, Henata. Activities on Thursday will start at 10:30 a.m. with speaker Gail Piper — Mas- ter Gardeners — and be fol- lowed by Dr. Risa Pesapane, who will speak on ticks. At 1 p.m. Alice Hoover will present as The Circuit Rider’s Wife, Ruth Shel- don. Mike Bechtol will then speak at 2 p.m. A soup sup- per will be held from 4-6 p.m., and music will be pro- vided by the Nancy Akin’s Band at 7 p.m., along with a skit by Tiverton Youth. Coffee and doughnuts will be served both days, starting at 10 a.m., and a covered-dish meal will be served each day at noon. United Way brings on new board member Submitted The United Way board of control announced Jarred Renner was voted onto the board at the July 2019 meeting. He is pictured here with his wife Cara. Renner has taught in the River View School District for five years, was an admin- istrator at Union Elementary School for three years and is in his second year as principal for Conesville Elementary School. He holds a BA in history and psychology from MVNU, a master’s in special educa- tion from MVNU, and a master’s in educa- tional leadership from Muskingum Univer- sity. Renner was a previous winner of the MVESC Aspiring Administrator as well. Renner and his wife Cara have three children: Caden (age 6), Kensington (age 4) and Lucy (age 1). In his spare time he is a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and pres- ident of SOCA. He enjoys attending events at CBC, coaching his children in sports and spending time with family. Wednesday through April 1. The time has been set to permit some who work in the area to come on their lunch hour. Soups and pies for the March 4 luncheon will be provided by the Coshocton Church of the Nazarene, West Lafayette United Methodist Church, and Central Christian Church/St. John’s United Church of Christ. Church Women United will prepare crackers, vegetables, cheese, and beverages. The suggested donation is $5; any proceeds after expenses will go to Church Women United for their “clothe a child” project. Following the meal, a hymn will be sung, fol- lowed by special music. Pastor Steve Bentley, transitional pastor for Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Coshocton, will speak on “The Broken Heart.” Now in their second year, the planning team has included Joan McNeely, Donna Westfall, Roma Vance, Mickie Galajda, Steve Clark, Catherine Miller, Pastor Richard K. Hoover, Charles R. Sny- der, Tina Johnson, John Addy, and Carol Todd . Twenty-three county churches are involved in this year’s Lenten Lunches.
