The Ohio House of Representatives passed legislation Wednesday to protect Ohioans ’ second amendment right . House Bill 325 , clearly states that no government official can use an emergency declaration to close firearms dealers or restrict the lawful ownership of firearms .
“ It remains a top priority of mine to protect the Second Amendment rights of Ohioans and House Bill 325 is an important piece of legislation that will ensure your rights are protected ,” Miller said .
This legislation makes it clear that firearm businesses are essential , making the ability for an emergency declaration to shut them down not viable . The bill also makes clear government officials

Letter to Editor

On Feb 15 , 2022 , NBC 4 in Columbus , Ohio shared an article titled “ The Least educated counties in Ohio .” I ’ m sorry , but this needs a comment because it is misleading , ambiguous , and disrespectful . Education isn ’ t simply indicative of a certificate or diploma . In Holmes County , for example , the Amish are a major populous group that has helped contribute to the fact the county is one of the more affluent ( if you want to make money the baseline ) in terms of income . To say that Holmes County is the least educated , largely due to the notion that 34.6 % have less than a ninth grade education , is a disrespectful and manipulative way to categorize a community .
Amish go to school until the eighth grade . That is not necessarily a bad thing . Do you realize that in the Amish community 85 % of businesses succeed over the first five years compared to only 15 % of our ( English ) businesses ? Go to any Amish store and watch the young worker count out your change without pictures or the help of a computer / calculator . They learn what they need to be competent and successful when they get out of school . This “ uneducated ” section of our population certainly doesn ’ t stop thousands upon thousands of tourists from spending millions of their dollars in the area . The same can be said of many communities throughout Ohio
We place value on a certificate and go into debt the rest of our lives trying to pay for it . Statistics lie . Poll a group that has a certain predisposition , and you ’ ll get a number that satisfies your bias . I venture to say this article was based on a census . As a point of reference , the national average of those receiving high school diplomas , or an equivalent , is only 27.2 %. Do you believe we only have a 27 % graduation rate in our country ( https :// www . homefacts . com / demographics . html )? Isn ’ t it ironic that we are a society that is sensitive to name calling , etc ., however , it ’ s OK to make community designations because that is not as unobjectionable ? Consider the potential harm if an investor might consider building or relocating a business to an area . Then they say , “ I can ’ t do anything there , they don ’ t have the education we require .” That sounds objectionable to me .
Our communities are made up of entrepreneurs and dreamers whose “ education ” came from listening to those who came before them ; listening to others who tried , failed , tried , failed again , and then made it all work because they learned from experience and from the wisdom of others . Again , the article was insulting . Never let someone tell you that you can ’ t do something , allow them to influence your opinion of yourself , or pigeonhole you into being a statistic in a negative article . Remember , if you don ’ t believe in yourself , no one else will . Kenny Koch West Lafayette
