Genesis HealthCare System welcomed two new physicians to the Genesis Heart & Vascular Group . Surender Neravetla , M . D ., specializes in cardiothoracic surgery , and Akanksha N . Thakkar , M . D ., MPH , FACC , FSCAI , specializes in interventional cardiology .

Neravetla earned his doctorate of medicine at Osmania Medical College and completed an internship in general surgery at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad , India . He then completed extensive residency training in general surgery at The Jewish Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn , New York .

Neravetla furthered his specialized training in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati . He holds board certifications in general and thoracic surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons .

She furthered her training by completing fellowships in cardiovascular medicine at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center in Texas and interventional cardiology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis , Minnesota .

Thakkar is boardcertified in interventional cardiology , cardiovascular medicine and internal medicine , with additional certifications in nuclear cardiology and echocardiography .
