SUNDAY , FEB . 16 , 1975 “ It ’ s no secret that most people know I love auctioneering . I ’ ve sold everything from animal to real estate . There isn ’ t anything that can ’ t be sold by the auctioneering method . The smaller sale is the backbone of the Peddicord Auctioneering business and I don ’ t want anyone to feel their sale is too small . And yet I have the experience and ability to do the big sale as well ,” said Herb Peddicord . Performing over 4,500 sales since he became an auctioneer in 1952 , Peddicord will now focus solely on auctions after having sold his Chevy dealership and the realty part of his auction company . Although he will still deal in realty auctions . “ Public opinion is one of the best ways to sell and the auctioneering method is public opinion . I ’ m proud to be an auctioneer and the public has enabled me to be proud ,” said ‘ Mr . Auctioneer .’ MONDAY , FEB . 18 , 1985 Jay F . Shaw was inducted into the Specialty Advertising Hall of Fame . Last Tuesday the Specialty Advertising Association International held its Winter Showcase in Dallas and inducted the Coshocton businessman into its now 27-member hall of fame . Shaw served as president of Shaw-Barton , founded by his late father Jay S . Shaw , from 1976 to 1981 but was involved with the company for 30 years . In addition to his industry work , Jay is heavily involved with the local Salvation Army , the Coshocton Foundation and the Coshocton Area Chamber of Commerce . WEDNESDAY , FEB . 15 , 1995 “ Forget politics , teaching our children to take over our world tomorrow is a far more responsible position than any I can think of ,” said Dallas Giles , speaking to the Area Sertoma Club about Ruth Edwards . Edwards was selected as the recipient of the Sertoma Club ’ s Service to Mankind award . Edwards , a teacher at CHS , was born in Kansas and grew up in Iowa where she would graduate from Iowa State University . Taking a trip to Germany in 1977- ’ 78 , she would develop a love for the culture and its people . Ruth teaches German at CHS , and both hosts for and organizes the Coshocton exchange program with Germany . “ My students go over to Germany , and now they can stay with some East German families . And they see how a family of four stays in a small room together . They realize what they have over here , and they welcome their German friends into their homes here ,” said Ruth . Ruth and her husband William are members of Grace United Methodist Church where they both sing with the choir and are also both members of the Coshocton Community Choir . SUNDAY , FEB . 13 , 2005 The partnership between Artrain U . S . A . and the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum has seen many flock to see the two museum ’ s exhibits . The Artrain , which tours the country every three years , came to Coshocton with “ Native Views : Influences of Modern Culture ” featuring 71 works by 54 Native American Artists . Students from around the county came to tour the exhibit Thursday afternoon . Alongside the Artrain , the Johnson-Humrickhouse ’ Native American gallery has also been a heavy draw for locals and tourists . Abby Maier , one of the four artists traveling with the train , said “ I don ’ t have numbers , but ever since we opened it ’ s just been a constant stream of people coming in .” She believed the Coshocton stop has been the busiest yet . WEDNESDAY , FEB . 18 , 2015 CHS and River View boys swimmers have placed third and fourth , respectively , and the lady swimmers have placed 10th and seventh , respectively , at the ECOL Sectional swim meet held in Steubenville on Saturday .
