COTC forensic science graduate appears on crime investigation program

NEWARK - A Central Ohio Technical College ( COTC ) forensic science graduate recently appeared in an episode of “ The First 48 ” on A & E television . Elizebeth Coldwell is currently an investigator with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the state of Oklahoma .
“ The show was following one of the local police departments ,” said Coldwell . “ I happened to be the investigator for the state medical examiner ’ s office on the scene of the crime .”
The episode chronicled a murder investigation in Tulsa , Okla . in December 2015 . Jeromy Ingram was found shot to death in a vehicle outside a hotel .
“ I was just there doing my job ,” said Coldwell .
Coldwell graduated from COTC in June 2007 and moved to Oklahoma with her husband to be closer to his family . She has been working for the medical examiner ’ s office since March 2008 .
“ My job is to basically be the eyes and ears in the field for our forensic pathologists . The investigators in our office photograph scenes , talk to law enforcement and families , as well as obtain records from medical facilities and law enforcement ,” said Coldwell . “ I like being part of a group of people who work to give families answers about their loved one ’ s death .”

Commissioners approve agenda

COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Commissioners met Monday , Feb . 13 to review and approve the following items on their agenda :
• A motion to sign Resolution 2017-10 an advance from the general fund to the family drug court grant fund in the amount of $ 12,000 to be repaid by Dec . 31 , 2017
• A motion to approve then and now certificates which have been certified by the county auditor
• A motion to approve transfers / additionals / reductions which have been certified by the county auditor .

‘ Freedom Summer ’ to be shown at Kent State Tuscarawas

NEW PHILADELPHIA - In observation of Black History Month , Kent State University at Tuscarawas will present the film , “ Freedom Summer ,” at 7 p . m . on Thursday , Feb . 23 in Founders Hall Auditorium .
Sponsored by the Diversity Advisory Committee , admission to the film is free and open to the public . This PBS American Experience Film focuses on the 10 weeks of history changing events in Mississippi during the summer of 1964 .
“ Freedom Summer ” is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Stanley Nelson
(“ Freedom Riders ,” “ The Murder of Emmett Till ”). According to the film ’ s producers , Firelight Films , “ Freedom Summer ” highlights an overlooked but essential element of the civil rights movement : The patient and long term efforts by both outside activist and local citizens in Mississippi to organize communities and register black voters – even in the face of intimidation , physical violence and death .”
Kent State Tuscarawas is located at 330 University Dr . N . E . in New Philadelphia .

Coldwell graduated from Lakewood High School in Hebron in 1996 and started her degree at COTC when she was 25 years old . It was a decision that she believes changed her life .
“ Earning my degree in forensics and almost completing a secondary associate degree in criminal justice gave me enough of a background in the criminal justice field to be hired initially as a pathology assistant with the medical examiner ’ s office ,” said Coldwell . “ I was a pathology assistant for two years before becoming an investigator .”
