West Lafayette Lions Club hosts monthly breakfast

By Marianne Austin For The Beacon
The West Lafayette Lions Club All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast is more than just pancakes , Club President Dan Hardesty said .
“ We used to call it a pancake breakfast , but now we serve more than just pancakes ,” Hardesty said . “ We have eggs , sausage , French toast , coffee and orange juice . We have been doing this for a number of years at the same location , the West Lafayette United Methodist Church . We start at 7:30 in the morning . We enjoy everyone coming out , and it is $ 10 for all you can eat , no limit . We do it the first Saturday of every month from November until April . There are signs out so people can see them and know when we are having

the breakfasts . We appreciate everyone coming out .” Proceeds from the breakfast help the club give back to the community . Hardesty said they support Starkey Lawrence at Shepherd ’ s Christian Assembly , the West Lafayette Fire Department , the police department , each of the schools and Dollars for Scholars .
“ We do eyeglasses that the Lions Club is known for where we collect eyeglasses and give them to the Ohio State University ,” Hardesty said . “ They fix them and send them all over the world . We also have the mouse game at
West Lafayette Homecoming . Everyone has fun doing that .”
Some members of the Warsaw Lions Club were at the breakfast . Fred Wachtel and Bob Buxton with his wife Chris like to support the Lions Club and come to the breakfast in West Lafayette .
“ There are only two Lions Clubs in the county , and that ’ s why we support each other ,” Bob Buxton said . “ We have our Minstrel Show and one pancake breakfast , and they have a breakfast every month . We like to help them out , and the food is excellent .”
Jim Eckelberry has been an honorary Lion for more than 60 years . “ They did another fine job today , and the food is always good ,” he said .
John Hardesty was busy scrambling eggs .
Dave Kadri and Tom Brill worked on the pancakes .
“ Our secretary / treasurer Dave Kadri and Tom Brill , the oldest member of the club , known as the Tale Twister , who likes to keep the meetings going and aggravates everyone , are very instrumental in all

of our fundraisers .” John Hardesty said . “ If it wasn ’ t for these two , we wouldn ’ t have a club . We are a small club , and they make sure this club operates . We are always looking for new members .”
