Dads and their children recently had the chance to show off their snowmanbuilding skills and enter the Coshocton Fatherhood Initiative snowman-building contest . The contest runs through Feb . 28 , and one of the many entries they have already received was from Jon McFarland .
The recent snow was perfect for building snowmen . McFarland and his 6-yearold foster son spent three hours creating a Ninja Turtle masterpiece in Warsaw .
“ I saw in The Beacon about the Fatherhood Initiative snowman contest ,” McFarland said . “ This is the first time he got to experience building a snowman . He said it was the coolest snowman he has ever seen .”
Pictures of dads and their kids building snowmen can be submitted to the Coshocton Fatherhood Facebook page for a chance to win valuable prizes . You will find the group under William Johnson “ Coshocton Fathers .”
Provide contact information to be notified if you win or call Johnson at 740- 610-6412 and report your information . A family may have more than one child participating , and they also can build a snowman for prizes ( family with two , three , four or more children can build and be entered into the contest ).
Dad must be present to help children both build for and redeem prizes . Prizes include five Kindle Fires ,
10 Papa John ’ s pizzas , five Walmart gift cards , and one overnight stay for Dad and his kids at the Coshocton Inn and Suites with all the amenities and a Papa John ’ s dinner meal .

COTC is now offering accelerated courses

Central Ohio Technical College is adapting to meet students ’ current needs by offering a selection of general-education courses during the second term of its spring semester in an accelerated format ( eight weeks versus 15 weeks ).
All courses will be taught remotely . The courses offered can count toward an associate degree at COTC or transfer to any public college or university in Ohio , offering students another flexible option to pursue a degree during the pandemic .
For students who want to fast-track their career by earning a technical degree at COTC but were unable to begin in January , second-term classes are an opportunity to get started on a degree path . Students also can work toward a bachelor ’ s degree at a fraction of the cost by completing these transferfriendly courses , many of which are freshman and sophomore courses found at four-year universities .
Second-term courses will begin March 8 . COTC ’ s free application for admission is due March
1 , and the last day to register for classes is March 8 . These courses are financial-aid eligible for students enrolled in a degree pathway at COTC . To be considered for financial aid , students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www . studentaid . ed . gov .
Coshocton County residents may be eligible for free tuition through COTC ’ s Coshocton Promise . Learn more at go . cotc . edu / promise or call the Coshocton campus at 740- 622-1408 .
