WEST LAFAYETTE – Haarman’s Pallet Trea-
sures had its grand opening and ribbon
cutting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 22. The
business, owned by Chris and Melissa
Haarman, features a little bit of every-
thing from electronic to home décor, toys
to kitchen ware, and many other items, all
which have been marked down from their
original price. Items are either overstock
from big-name stores or items that are in
good condition that have been returned.
“Any business at all in our town helps
the people who are coming in,” said Oren
Griffith, president of the West Lafayette
Chamber of Commerce. “People may stop
here in town for something else and then
stop here at the store.”
Chris said that the store opened about
three weeks ago and has seen a steady
stream of customers since then.
“It hasn’t been too bad,” said Chris about
the number of customers. “The front of the
store wasn’t done for a while, but the more
we got done on the storefront, the more
customers started coming in.”
Chris and Melissa originally had a store
in Sugarcreek, but it suffered from a fire,
so the couple decided to relocate their
store to West Lafayette.
the word.”
She also said that customers seem to be
satisfied with the products they offer.
“The customers are happy,” said Me-
lissa. “I don’t know how many times
customers have come in and said that’s
a steal. Just them coming in and getting
something they wanted or something they
didn’t even know they wanted has been
fun.”
The couple has a warehouse in Heath
where they purchase their items.
“We’re not in this to make a bunch of
money,” said Chris. “It’s just something
fun. We make a little bit of money and
people get good deals.”
The store is located at 103 W. Railroad
St., West Lafayette, and is open Wednes-
day and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and
Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“It couldn’t be more thrilling for me to
see a new business come into the commu-
nity,” said Mayor Stephen Bordenkircher.
“I think this is the eighth business to open
this year [in West Lafayette]. It’s been a
nice growth spurt, and it’s really nice to
have. If we can find new businesses to
move in, it improves our infrastructure
and our tax base.”
