Mint Ivy Boutique helps out Santa Claus and kids

By Josie Sellers
This Christmas season Kayla Miller of Mint Ivy Boutique gave back to the community that has supported her business . Miller had a mailbox set up in front of her store and invited children to write letters to Santa Claus .
“ It was a random idea I had one night and thought it would be neat , so I made a post on Facebook if anyone had a mailbox they didn ’ t need any more , and someone jumped on it right away , so I got started ,” she said . “ We ended up getting around 30 letters , and the kids were able to put them into the mailbox at any time .”
Miller enjoyed checking the mailbox , discovering new letters and reading them .
“ It ’ s like you could almost get to know kids just through their letters on some of them ,” she said .
Everyone who mailed a letter got a gift , and a few were selected to receive some extras .
“ We had people in the community that wanted to help after we got it going , and they had free range . They could get as much as they wanted from the letters ,” Miller said . “ Most of them were taken care of by us , and then also we had people come in the store and donate money after they heard about it to help us fulfill the wishes , and that was absolutely amazing too and a big help . A couple of people actually took over families and went and did their own shopping , then brought it back to us .”
Miller also had the help of Paige Patterson , Sarah Watson and Jingles , who made sure Santa saw the letters and the kids got a reply back .
“ Jingles played a huge role replying back to kids that we got their letter , and she had to make a couple trips to the store last minute and helped keep it all organized in the store too ,” Miller said . “ Sarah , who did all of the amazing wrapping too . So yes , we had to all pull together , and then with the help of the community members , I think really made this random idea be successful .”
They ended up with around 30 gifts that parents were able to secretly stop in and pick up or have delivered to their porches .
“ It definitely added to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season , doing the Santa letters , getting them fulfilled along with gratefully being super busy in the store with shoppers , but I think it ’ s going to be a new yearly tradition for the Santa Mailbox to come out ,” Miller said . “ It was amazing hearing the stories of how the kids reacted to their Santa gifts . I can ’ t wait to see how it grows .”
