Sellers reflects on return of face-to-face gatherings

Good Food , Friends & Entertainment !
One of the things I missed the most when the pandemic was in full swing was connecting with people face to face . I know there were Zoom meetings , Zoom classes , FaceTime and all that other technology , but it just wasn ’ t the same . I was so happy to see events start to take place again in 2021 and my writers and I allowed back in schools .
One of my favorite stories from 2021 is from late May when I went to the Coshocton Christian School for its dedication of a donated giant American flag . The flag formerly flew at Mullett Tire and was given to the school after the property sold . Students had the pleasure of helping unfold the flag and hoisting it up the flag pole at its new home . Their smiles were contagious as they danced under the flag and reached as high as they could to keep it up off the ground .
Another fun story took place this summer when I followed the Building Our Bears kids to the Daugherty family ’ s state-of-the-art dairy barn . The students from River View ’ s summer program learned facts about the dairy industry and toured the family ’ s operation . They even got the chance to feed baby calves . It was a fun day and unique way to do our annual

June Dairy Month feature .
It also was nice to see the fair back this year . I loved seeing Hunter Arena full of people again and the junior fair auction being held live . I didn ’ t grow up with 4-H and don ’ t always speak the language well , but I know these kids work hard . It was nice to see them get to have a full fair . It ’ s also fun to take pictures at the auction . Every now and then , I luck out and catch a real moment between an exhibitor and their animal . The cover photo of the Oct . 14 paper was one of those lucky shots between a longtime exhibitor and her lamb .
Veterans Day was one of my favorite events to cover until my dad died in 2019 . I have to admit I sometimes really go out of my way to get one of my other writers to cover the activities . If I go , I end up crying like a baby and missing my favorite Vietnam veteran . This year I decided to write a column about how much sharing Veterans Day with my dad meant . I smiled , I cried and I laughed while writing it . The column was the most
commented-on story I ’ ve ever written . Thank you to everyone who read it and reads our paper weekly . It truly is a blessing to cover the positive news in Coshocton County !
