Positivity plentiful throughout our community

Here ’ s hoping everyone in Beacon land had a very Merry Christmas and is ready to jump into the New Year of 2022 . With the loss of many we keep in our hearts , 2021 was a difficult and emotional year for many in our community and beyond . The ravages of COVID-19 and its variants continue to wreak tragedy throughout our community , state and nation . Hopefully , 2022 will be the year we can wrestle this to the ground and look back on it as one of those periods in history where we overcame .
Our community moved forward in big ways during this past year , with dozens of new businesses opening , many others expanding and several manufacturers adding more capacity and employees . The difficulty of finding staff has not escaped Coshocton County as many business owners will tell you it is their most pressing matter — even more than supply-chain issues .
Everything is lined up for a positive and successful year for Coshocton County as momentum is clearly on our side right now . A much-needed Justice Center , a sorely needed building for the Coshocton EMS and other projects all point to good things we can point to as a community moving in the right direction .
Sure , like everyone else , we have our distractions , but the good things far outweigh the bad . Let ’ s talk up the good stuff , work on the negatives and keep going forward .
You know we need to talk about the Buckeyes . Which team will show up against Utah in the Rose Bowl ? Prediction : Buckeyes 35 and Utah 14 . We also have that playoff game with another team from our state going up against Alabama . Does Cincinnati have a chance ? You bet . They match up well with a solid secondary against the Crimson Tide pass offense . The boys from the Queen City are a bit suspect in the special team category . If the game comes down to a field goal , the bet would be on Alabama . But if the Bearcats can get their high-powered offense going , that won ’ t matter .
We have two other teams from our state that also play the gridiron game , and it appears , as of this writing , the team from the Queen City will be the one standing at the end of the regular season . While they are not exactly eliminated yet , the Browns gave it a good effort this year , but too many key injuries and the COVID factor got in the way at the wrong time .
Baker Mayfield is just not himself in this stretch part of the season . My expectation is for the Browns to rebound next year in a big way . Hopefully , they won ’ t trade away key players in the off-season .
As we wrap up another year of publishing The
Coshocton County Beacon , thanks to our readers and especially our advertisers for supporting us throughout this past year . There is always plenty of positive news about our community to print . Thank you and Happy New Year !
