Library appreciative of donation from Roscoe Alumni

The Coshocton Public Library has more than 60 new books , thanks to the Roscoe Alumni Association .
“ They wrote to us and said they decided to disband because of the advancing age of members and the COVID-19 pandemic ,” said Deborah Crowdy , youth services manager at the library . “ In their final fund they had $ 1,100 and gave it to us to purchase books . All they asked is that we marked that the books were from them , which we do anyways with donated books .”
In addition to the group ’ s name , Crowdy said they were able to add a picture of the school taken from one of the yearbooks the library has on hand to the front of each book .

of history books because that part of our collection has been neglected for children ,” Crowdy said . “ It was kind of outdated . ( Children ) like to see bits of facts on pages as if they were clicking on information . They don ’ t just read a

Lonsinger gets Good Turn Award

Steve Lonsinger is a 2020 recipient of the Good Turn Award for the Muskingum Valley Council BSA .
Lonsinger is the health commissioner for the Coshocton County General Health District . He has served as the health commissioner since 2015 . Prior to serving in this position , he was the director of environmental health at the health department for 16 years .
Lonsinger ’ s undergraduate studies were in agronomy at the Ohio State University ’ s College of Agriculture , and he earned his master ’ s in public administration through Ohio University .
Lonsinger and his wife , Nancy , still reside on the family farm where he grew up and where they raised their own family . Rural farm life was a major influence in shaping Lonsinger ’ s core values ; his love of Coshocton County , its land and its people ; and his work ethics . It is those tenets that have led his commitment to make Coshocton County a better place for its residents to live .
Lonsinger was honored at a virtual dinner on Dec . 9 . A contribution of $ 250 will be made in his honor to the charity of his choice by the Boy Scout Council .

Crowdy was able to purchase biographies of more recent first ladies who made an impact during their time in the White House and books about cats , which they were lacking in .
“ The nonfiction part of the library needed refreshed ,” Crowdy said . “ This was a great thing for us .”
The alumni association also gave the library four three-ring binders of its history .

Books purchased with money donated from the Roscoe Alumni Association bear the name of the group and feature a picture of the former school .
“ They include minutes from meetings , programs and most importantly a total list of students from 1899-1961 , their last
graduating class ,” Crowdy said .
That material will be preserved in the local history room , where the library also has yearbooks from county schools over the years .
“ The local history room is closed , but you can ask at the reference desk for assistance ,” Crowdy said .
Crowdy said anyone wishing to make a donation for books at the library is welcome to speak with director Jennifer Austin .
“ If you have a specific interest , we will honor what you request , but if you don ’ t , we will choose something to fill in a hole we might have in our collection ,” Crowdy said .
