Participants and volunteers both appreciate Christmas Castle project By Josie Sellers COSHOCTON – Sandy Sharier couldn’t have been more appreciative of the help her family received from The Salvation Army. “Times are tough right now,” she said. “Money is hard to come by and so is work. I appreciate anything that can be done to make things easier for families especially around the holidays.” Sharier’s 9-year-old granddaughter, Kadence Sharier, took part in The Salvation Army’s Christmas Castle. “She was all excited when I told her I was bringing her here to get new clothes,” Sandy said. The Christmas Castle program was for children ages 6 to 18 and gave them the opportunity to shop with volunteers from the community at Wal-Mart on Dec. 12 or Dec. 13. Each child was able to spend up to $75 on clothing items such as pants, shirts or coats and shoes or boots. “I love the work The Salvation Army does,” Sharier said. “They are very kind and generous. I used to go there all the time when I was a little girl and still have two sisters and a brother-in-law who help out here and my mom once in a while.” The shopping days were held from 4 to 8 p.m. and Salvation Army Envoy Vicki Clark said 25 children were scheduled to shop with a volunteer every half hour. “This helps out a lot,” said Abby Tyas. “I’m a single mom with two kids and this allows them to get winter boots and maybe me to be able to still get myself a pair. I like that the volunteers take the time to do this. I wish I had more time to help and volunteer, but I just got off work before we came here.” Two of the volunteers who helped out with the shopping were husband and wife Ron and Penny Egler. “I think it’s fun to do,” Penny said. Ron said it was their second year helping and that their neighbor Mary Crouso told them about the volun- MS 291 CHAIN SAW $ 459 FREE 95 18” bar “This saw has very good power and is easy to maintain.” Coshocton Auer Hardware 1961 Otsego Ave. 740-622-4056 | Available at participating retailers while supplies last. †The actual listed guide bar length can vary from the effective cutting length based on which powerhead it is installed on. © 2016 STIHL BES16-1142-130792-32 BES16-1142-130792-32.indd 1 Millersburg Charm Engine Ltd. 4741 S.R. 557 330-893-3033 CARRYING CASE It’s a beautiful thing. Crouso was able to spend almost every penny for her first shopping partner. “I only had $0.30 left,” she said. This was Deputy Scott Mast’s first time volunteering for Christmas Castle. “We were able to grow beards again this year if we donated and a few of us wanted to follow up and see what happens afterwards,” he said. Mast was shopping with Raven Reynolds who said his favorite item had to be his Ridgewood colored shoes. “We got lucky with those,” Mast said. Reynolds was very thankful for volunteers like Mast. “I like the fact that people are so nice and let us do this,” Reynolds said. Walhonding Troyer’s Engine Shop 29728 Coshocton Rd.
