Can we take a moment and think ?

Letter to the Editor :
Regardless of who you voted for , can we please just take a moment to think ? I don ’ t want to imply you have not been thinking ; however , it is time to acknowledge some things .
First , Joe Biden won the election . Second , there is no wide-spread voter fraud ( maybe some missed votes but not enough to change the outcome ). Third , we had a contested election with record numbers of votes . Fourth , Twitter , Facebook , Snap Chat and others are not great sources of information . Fifth , COVID-19 is not a hoax .
It is the last issue I want us to think about . I wear a mask , wash my hands and do my level best to maintain social distances and maintain a small social circle of contacts . I limit my time in the office so those who have to be there can do that as safely as possible . I can Zoom and make phone calls from home or a secure office by myself to perform my job .
I know others do not have that luxury , and so in an effort to not only keep myself healthy , I am trying to take those who cannot do this into consideration . By doing this , I am helping the healthcare workers by not having to be attended to in the hospital . I am helping those who may have a high-risk factor stay safe by protecting them from me . I could be a carrier and not know it .
I try to shop locally , safely at the times of day that have lower traffic times . That is an inconvenience , but again , I am trying to think of those people who potentially have a lot of faceto-face contacts during the course of a day . If I can be organized and limit my contacts , I am protecting others .
I have watched our local numbers go up , and I am hugely frustrated when I see people in stores without a mask on , seemingly ignoring they may be contributing to the spread of a virus and it is based on the concept of “ My rights are being violated .”
Shouldn ’ t we just take a moment and consider what others may be dealing with : fear , personal health issues , the need to be in public so they can earn a paycheck and other considerations that should be taken into account ?
Coshocton is one of the most “ giving ” communities I have ever lived in — so willing to support those in need year after year , numerous benefit auctions and events that the local merchants support , as well as Salvation Army , United Way , Hopewell School and Industries , Echo Hills , just to name a few . These are all served unselfishly ; however , when it comes to wearing a mask , that seems to be the line in the sand that crosses serving others . Think about it . Ed Gallagher Coshocton

Baumgardner reflects on the past 4 years of politics in our world

Letter to the Editor :
I first want to say that though this opinion writing is somewhat political , it is not particularly for or against any outgoing or incoming president . Rather it is just about how I have looked at politics the past nearly four years .
First of all , back in 2016 when it was clear President Trump had won , I went to bed not greatly alarmed , believing there would be things good for our country . For example , perhaps some of our trade agreements with say China or Mexico may not have been fair to the USA .
Perhaps some avid Trump supporters believed that to be true . Further , I was still skeptical of anti-immigrant rhetoric of both legal and illegal immigration . Later I was aghast at the sight of a father ’ s body with his toddler on his back drowned trying to get to America .
Perhaps they were escaping violence in their Central American country or just wanting to get a better opportunity in America . Even with Biden getting an electoral victory as that by Trump in 2016 , when I heard of cries of fraud ,
I thought could that be true ?
Now after 30 some dismissals of fraud lawsuits or assertions of 34 such procedures , a fired homeland election official has indicated the 2020 election was the most secure in history . The hand recount in Georgia found a discrepancy of some 360 votes for Trump . Even a recount in a county in Wisconsin found Biden with 132 more votes . It is a fact that Hillary conceded that Trump won and attended the inauguration . In fact , some 78,000 votes in three key states made the difference in the electoral college .
There was no claim of fraud or recounts demanded by the Democrats that I recall . I would want Trump to attend Biden ’ s inauguration with good behavior . Hillary found it difficult to hide her disappointment with body language , but she made no spectacle . Earlier , she entertained Melania with a tour of the White House . I do not want to see Trump convicted or imprisoned with possible state crimes once out of office . In fact , I felt the same about Richard Nixon , who was pardoned by Gerald Ford . I will not be a party to “ lock him up ” or would carry a sign saying , “ You Are Fired .” Martin Baumgardner Warsaw
