Christmas event raises $ 9,000

D Woodward Wells was absolutely overwhelmed by the community ’ s support for the first Christmas Magic in Lights at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds .
“ An hour before the first car pulled up , I was hoping at least one person would come and we would raise a little money ,” she said . “ A thousand cars later , I thought , ‘ Oh my gosh .’ I was totally overwhelmed . I was in tears . I couldn ’ t believe how many people lined up . I couldn ’ t be more pleased with how this community rallied together .”
The drive-thru light display was held Dec . 5 as a way to raise money for the Coshocton County Firefighter ’ s Toy Chest . Twenty-five groups registered to take part in the holiday festivities , and 24 showed up to provide displays from 6-9 p . m . Organizers , however , stayed open as
BF-00500638 long as it took to get the line of vehicles through .
“ The last car started through at 10 till 10 ,” Woodward said . “ It took about 10-12 minutes to drive through . It depended on how fast people went and how many pictures they took . It ’ s unbelievable how well it was supported .”
The event raised $ 8,999.47 , and Woodward said she would add the change so they could officially hit $ 9,000 . The light display will be held again next year , but the date is not yet confirmed .
“ We are very thankful to everyone that put ( Christmas Magic in Lights ) on and donated ,” Laura Drake from the Firefighter ’ s Toy Chest said . “ We never dreamed it would raise so much .”
Drake said the program is serving 141 families , which includes more than 500 kids this year .
We want to express our deepest sincere thank you to all our family and friends for the cards , flowers , gifts , and calls to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary . We are so very blessed on the outpouring of love and thoughtfulness shown to us . It meant a lot to us . Thank you again .
