River View schools are looking to reconfigure in the near future

With three of River View ’ s five schools being at 50 % capacity , it is time to start planning for how the district will look in the near future .
“ We ’ ve lost a lot of kids over the years , and we have older buildings with a lot of issues ,” superintendent Chuck Rinkes said . “ Of our three elementaries , two of them have now been closed during two different pandemics .”
Ideas for the future reconfiguration of the district are being brainstormed by a committee made up of board of education members , administrators , teachers , classified staff , parents from different buildings and parts of the district , and community members . This committee will work to develop up to five different options for the board of education to review and adopt for school and grade-level alignments moving forward in the future .

in 1965 ; the junior high , which was built in 1980 ; Conesville Elementary , which was built in 1916 with additions in 1935 and 1952 ; Keene Elementary , which was built in 1914 and added on to in 1936 ; and Warsaw Elementary , which was built in 1927 and added on to in 1935 and 1958 .
“ Since 1965 we have been reconfiguring our district ,” Rinkes said . “ The junior high is the only building that has been refurbished .”
After the top-five ideas are selected by the committee and board , they will be presented to the public at two different community meetings . Both are scheduled for 6 p . m . The first will be Tuesday , Feb . 15 at NewPointe Community Church in Coshocton , and the second will be Thursday , Feb . 17 at River View High School .
“ We will have a way for people who are there to vote on the ideas and also for people who watch on YouTube to vote ,” Rinkes said . “ I told our staff at the beginning of the year that within the next five years we will be reconfigured differently . It ’ s going to take some time , and there will be some refabrication that needs to be done . After that we need to put our eye on trying to grow through getting our alumni to stay , building up our open enrollment and our preschool program .”
