In response to the national and regional shortages of commercial truck drivers , COTC is partnering with Ancora Corporate Training , an established national provider of CDL training , to offer this noncredit training locally .

COTC ’ s Ancora Class A Tractor-Trailer program provides classroom learning and on-the-road training to prepare students for the CDL exam . Classes are small and taught by experienced instructors who can give students a real-life perspective on what it ’ s like to be a truck driver .

The program will be offered exclusively at COTC ’ s Pataskala Campus Annex at 621 W . Broad St ., Pataskala .

Students will be trained to inspect and operate tractor-trailers and assume driver responsibilities on the road and at pickup and delivery points . Emphasis is placed on vehicle inspections , defensive driving , range maneuvers , motor carrier safety regulations , trip planning , cargo handling , size and weight laws , general maintenance procedures , and accident prevention .

Students must hold a valid Ohio driver ’ s license , complete a physical and drug screening , and obtain a commercial learner ’ s permit before training begins . Information regarding fulfilling these requirements will be available in each registered student ’ s welcome packet .

Amelia “ Mia ” Colleen Bethel said she wanted to be a pretty princess , and her parents Kim and Garrett Bethel decided to enter her in the QT patootie contest during the West Lafayette Homecoming and she won . Her favorite part was waving in the parade and blowing kisses , although she wasn ’ t a fan of the fire truck directly behind her . Kim Bethel said , “ She enjoyed smiling and waving at all the dogs . She was mad because she couldn ’ t go on stage when her friend was up there for the initial rehearsal . But once she got up there , she was waving and blew a couple kisses .”
