Community Agriculture Event held Aug . 4

Daniel Dawson was on a quest to win a free cup of Whit ’ s Frozen Custard at the Aug . 4 First Farm Friday in downtown Coshocton , but first he had to visit at least 15 of 20 education stations .
First Farm Friday is an opportunity for people to learn more about agriculture in Coshocton County and an annual event organized by the Coshocton Soil & Water Conservation District . The 20 organizations on the stamp card the office hands out are just a few of the many people who help make the event possible .

One of the stops 10-year-old Dawson made was at the OSU Extension Coshocton 4-H display . There participants could peddle the blender bike and see how their own leg power helped turn a blender and make roasted red pepper humus .
“ At our in-school programs , we like to talk about good nutrition and physical activity ,” Emily Marrison from the OSU Extension office said . “ This mixes both of them together .”
Dawson said , “ The bike was hard to peddle .” He had fun at that event , though , and his favorite stop was the archery station set up by the ODNR Division of Wildlife .
One of the new participants in the stamp card activity was Banbury Livestock .
“ I love to educate the public on agriculture ,” Barb Banbury said . “ This is a great opportunity for a lot of people .”
She brought two different kinds of sheep so people could see the differences in them , had a sheep craft for people to do , real wool for them to touch and information to take home .
At the Help Me Grow tent , kids could play with pump ponies while parents picked up information about the organization and

“ This gives us face-to-face contact with parents , gets our information out there and maybe meet new clients ,” Heather Grogro said .
There also were plenty of spots to stop and grab some food at First Farm Friday including the Future

Leaders 4-H Club stand . President Brie Hagans said proceeds from fundraisers like this help them buy fair passes for club members and sweatshirts , so they all look like one unit when they go out .
The event wrapped up with a concert by Claudia Hoyser , who was part of Our Town Coshocton ’ s downtown concert series .
