Boutique owners attend a conference in Dallas

Two local boutique owners recently attended The Boutique Hub Summit in Dallas , Texas . Jill Sheridan , co-owner of Rust Décor , and her daughter , Rylee Lecraft , and Kayla Crozier and Teya Murray , from Mint Ivy Boutique , traveled to Dallas to learn how to grow their businesses . Both businesses follow The Boutique Hub and were excited to have the chance to attend one of its summits .
The Boutique Hub website says it is the world ’ s largest boutique community in the industry , connecting boutique retailers , eCommerce retailers , wholesale brands , product makers , and industry service providers and experts to provide support to all who make up the boutique community . The summit consisted of keynote speakers , breakout sessions and vendors .
Sheridan said the whole focus of the conference was on small businesses . “ Rust Décor is a gift / clothing boutique along with home décor items . The main stage speakers were so motivational — almost like cheerleaders . We ’ ve only been in business about two years ,

so there was so much good information for us to use in the store ,” she said .
Sheridan said her daughter uses social media for the store but that she didn ’ t realize how important social media was .
“ She went to a class about using TikTok and Instagram for the store . Rylee already uses Instagram and Facebook for us , but I didn ’ t know TikTok could be so useful too ,” she said . “ This really helped me understand that I need to look beyond our brick and mortar store and get with the times . We need to look at new ways

Sheridan plans to start live sales in the future .
“ Live sales will be advertised for several days on Facebook . At the sale time , I will go live on Facebook and show different items that I have in the store with the price . People comment that they want it and what size , and we will ship it to them . Buyers from all over the country will be able to buy from us . I ’ m nervous and camera shy , but it is exciting .”
Crozier said , “ It was 110 % worth the trip , and I can ’ t wait to go back next year . Getting to first hear from the faces I admire and watch every day there in person and just casually run into them , talk to them and learn from them was surreal . They told all the different roller-coaster emotions that go along with owning the boutique that I always have in my head , and now hearing them with the same ones and seeing where they are now — it gives that sign of relief that this is normal .
“ Hearing the top boutiques in the country saying what works and what doesn ’ t and letting their secrets out really showed how important community over competition is .”
