New store is now open in West Lafayette

Tami Elder always wanted to work for herself , and now she gets the opportunity to share her new business with her daughter Shawna Albaugh .
The mother-daughter duo recently opened Hecates Realm at 101 W . Railroad St . in West Lafayette . The metaphysical / bookstore is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:30 a . m . to 5 p . m ., Friday through Sunday from 10:30 a . m . to 6 p . m . and closed Mondays .
“ I love to read and know so many people were wishing there was a bookstore around here ,” Elder said . “ I asked people on Facebook what they were reading and who their favorite authors were so I could get books that adults and kids wanted .”
The store also features crystals , herbs , candles , wax melts , spell jars , tarot cards , artwork done by Albaugh and more . Many items , like the sage sticks ,

“ Sage sticks can be used to cleanse a place like your home ,” she said . “ Most people can feel negative energy , and you can use a sage stick to help cleanse an area of it . Not everyone can use the sticks though ,

so I have sprays too .”
The crystals in the shop all have their own meaning , and Elder can help you find the right one to fit your needs .
“ Clear quartz is probably a favorite of everyone ,” she said . “ It covers everything . You can put whatever intent you need into it . This way you only have to carry one crystal . They each come with a card to help you remember what they do . I carry a whole little bag of crystals . I don ’ t leave the house without it .”
Elder would love to see the store get bigger and eventually remodel her back room . She welcomes people to stop by and see what they are all about .
“ Don ’ t be afraid to come in and just look around ,” Elder said .
