Students learn about agriculture
in Coshocton County
COSHOCTON - On March 20 the members of Coshocton
County Youth Leadership participated in a program
day to learn about industry and agriculture.
We began our day at the Ridgewood General Store
with some delicious doughnuts. After breakfast we
traveled to Pearl Valley Cheese in Fresno. Th ere we
were given a tour of the factory from Mr. G. He taught
us about the history behind Pearl Valley Cheese and
about the cheese making process. We were given
some tasty cheese samples to enjoy on our trip to the
Th omas Family Farm. At the farm, Mary Th omas
spoke to us about the work she and her family does on
their farm and how they care for all of their animals.
After speaking with her we were able to take a look
around the barn and meet the sheep.
From the Th omas farm we traveled back to the
Ridgewood General store where Samantha Priest
Davis
from the Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD)
taught us, through a hands on simulation about what happens to our streams, rivers,
and other water supplies when we don’t take care of the environment. Next we heard
from the owner of the store Mr. Jay Davis about the path that lead him to opening
his business. He told us about the work that goes into owning his own business and
the reward he receives from being able to do something he loves every day. We then
enjoyed lunch provided by the General Store.
