Helpful tips for cleaning windows and staying safe

David Love from Dave ’ s Professional Window Cleaning has been cleaning windows for 46 years . While he mainly works on windows at businesses , he still has helpful tips to assist homeowners .
“ Don ’ t let your windows get so dirty that you have a hard time cleaning them ,” he said . “ I work all winter long , but spring and fall are good times for homeowners to get to their windows .”
Love suggested using a microfiber towel that doesn ’ t leave lint behind . “ I use surgical towels ,” he said . “ They don ’ t leave hardly any lint . Some people use newspapers .”
Love ’ s other usual cleaning tools are a squeegee and a solution of dishwashing soap and a little ammonia .
“ Don ’ t use harsh cleaners like Fantastik or 409 ,” he said . “ They can eat into the window and leave spots that never come off . You have to be careful what cleaner you use because they are not all good for windows .”
You also have to be careful what you scrub spots off your windows with .
“ The white scrub pads are less abrasive and usually will not scratch a window ,” Love said . “ Some windows will scratch easier than others .”
Weather also needs to be considered when cleaning your windows .
“ Be careful when the sun is really hot and shining directly on the window ,” Love said . “ Most windows clean better when it ’ s shady . They are
This harder to clean when it ’ s heating up and the sun is reflecting back on you .”
Other helpful tools for the process are a long pole and a ladder but remember to be safe .
“ If you use a ladder , I really recommend getting a good one that is not going to slip ,” Love said . “ Make sure its feet are on the ground and that
Month ’ s you are safe climbing it . Some people get up three or four steps and start to panic , and that makes it hard to do what you need to do .”
