Ridgewood High School senior Kaleb Meeks , son of Katy Meeks , was chosen as one of the two county winners of a full scholarship to the Ohio State University . Two seniors from each county in Ohio are chosen each year for a land grant scholarship .
“ The scholarship covers everything including tuition , books , dining , room and board , and other miscellaneous things ,” Meeks said .
Meeks said OSU was the school he always wanted to go to , but after visiting Akron , he liked that campus too .
“ After receiving the scholarship , my decision was very easy ,” Meeks said . “ I ’ m pretty active in school . I currently participate in Art Club , yearbook , National Honor Society , Student Council , senior class treasurer and soccer . I used to play basketball too .”
Meeks said the application for the scholarship was a short paragraph on why he thought he deserved the award and what leadership roles he had at Ridgewood .
“ I want to stand out in the community as someone who does their own thing and is a good person in the community . I think I ’ m a good leader because I possess good traits where I think for myself , and I don ’ t really follow what other people do . I kind of do my own thing and always try to do what can benefit the community and me ,” Meeks said .
Meeks is undecided about what he wants to study but is considering a career in automotive engineering . He is thinking about working for a car company and figuring out how to build cars .
