About a year ago , Coshocton In Bloom was able to purchase a little over 2 acres on Denman Avenue to build greenhouses . The property was the former spot for Clary Brothers , and they were able to purchase it from Beth Clary , who was able to see the construction before she passed away . According to Coshocton In Bloom board member Tim France , the construction began in October of last year .
“ Last year we outgrew what local greenhouses could do for us . We needed a place so we could start our own flowers earlier so we could get the baskets up in mid-May . We appreciate the greenhouses who have helped us over the years , but we have grown so much . We just needed more ,” France said .
Coshocton In Bloom started with 48 hanging baskets and now has 96 , plus 400 containers on the ground and the baskets on the bridge coming into town . “ We want to make a huge impact and impress people ,” France said .
France said they plan to have the baskets hanging by
mid-May so people can enjoy them before Memorial Day .
Coshocton In Bloom is all volunteer , except for the person who waters the containers every day . The petunias that are most often used in
the hanging pots will bloom through October .
“ We try new things , sometimes , but always come back to these . People love them . People that rarely notice flowers notice the petunias and point them out to others . We have had so much support ,” France said .
All of the plants Coshocton In Bloom will use in the baskets and pots will be grown in the greenhouses . While the structure of the greenhouse is finished , there are still some small items that need to be finished , and they hope to be completely moved in soon .
The large concrete containers are rented for $ 80 a year . Coshocton In Bloom — with help from the city — will move the containers to wherever they are needed . CIB will plant the flowers and fertilize and water the pots .
“ If something dies , we replace it . No one has to take
care of the pots . We do it all ,” France said .
If you would like to rent a container , send a message through CIB ’ s Facebook page and France will get in touch with you .
“ The containers on the corners and around the court square are rented by the county ,” France said .
In the fall CIB plants spring flowers in the containers , and those flowers will bloom through mid-May , when they are ready to plant the summer flowers .
Money from different local organizations helped CIB build its greenhouses . However , there are always projects that need to be done . If you would like to donate to Coshocton In Bloom , checks can be sent to P . O . Box 1221 , Coshocton .
“ We appreciate all of the support the community has given us over the years ,” France said .
