The beauty of spring in Coshocton County is all around us , and the next few weeks will bring more splashes of color to the landscape as the gray of winter fades away . Thank goodness !
Certainly , one of the most enjoyable — and colorful — sports events in the spring has to be the Masters , and with the tournament in its normal April time slot , the beauty of Augusta was in full regalia . For those who watched , it was heartwarming to see the young man from Japan win the tournament and be fitted with the time-honored tradition of the green jacket . should be the final leg of the Olympic torch this summer in Tokyo .
Almost as exciting was watching the performance of 24-yearold Will Zalatoris , who earned a nice paycheck of $ 1,242,000 for his second-place finish . Keep your eye on this young man .
Coshocton County continues to move forward with positive momentum , jobs are available for those who want them and people are starting businesses around the county . It is especially vital that our towns and villages retain their sense of community , and this is only possible with businesses . And fortunately , we have those .
People also are supporting these businesses , whether it is a pizza shop , store , dine-in restaurant , clothing , auto parts store , or a place to grab a burger , fries and a shake . There are many others , and you would be hard-pressed to find a sense of community like it exists in our area .
Each year I suggest folks take a drive down
Main Street to see the beauty of the flowers on the trees . They are only there for a moment it seems before a hard rain or strong wind blows them away . They popped out in full force late last week , and hopefully , they are not gone before you get a chance to see what beauty we have in our community .
Main Street itself is moving forward with new businesses , improvements to existing businesses and a renewed sense of pride and spirit . It seems like it only takes one or two things to get the momentum rolling and then others get on board the train . In this case we ’ ll call it the Main Street Express . Kind of reminds me of watching the trains roll through town when I worked at the old boot shop in the “ fabulous 500 block .”
We just need to support these businesses to ensure they can survive — and thrive — in our

Clary Gardens will host an Earth Day : Garden Share event on Thursday , April 22 from 10 a . m . to 1 p . m .
Director of the gardens , Jandi Adams , said people won ’ t want to miss this one-of-a-kind event . “ We are going to be removing and dividing several of our perennial plants and are hoping to give many of them away to those in attendance .”
With a new pavilion being built this summer , several garden beds will be disrupted , and plantings will need to be dug up and given new homes .
community . This means all we need to do is ask ourselves , “ Can I buy this locally ?” before browsing the internet . Sure , there are always going to be things we can ’ t find or buy locally , but they are probably the exception and not the rule . Now that the rules on gathering are diminishing a bit and people are more comfortable being together , it makes everything better .
