Coshocton ’ s Nelson signs with Marietta College

After a long search , Coshocton ’ s Tucker Nelson has decided to continue his football and academic career at Marietta College . He signed his letter of intent on April 7 at Coshocton High School .
“ I looked at a lot of schools and met a lot of coaches ,” the CHS senior said . “ I liked the facility at Marietta . The coaches were great and so was the culture .”
Nelson also was impressed with their academics . “ Their sports management program really stood out , and I think it will help me be successful after college ,” he said .
Nelson plans to major in sports management and business . “ I hope to work in the front office of a professional team someday doing analytics , statistics or management ,” he said .
Nelson thought about playing football in college , but it wasn ’ t until late this past fall he really decided to go for it .
“ I love football ,” Nelson said . “ It ’ s my favorite sport .”
Coshocton ’ s head football coach Steve Smith said Marietta is getting an athlete with a great work ethic .
“ He ’ s very disciplined and works hard ,” Smith said . “ He ’ s a good teammate too . He was asked to change positions his senior year and accepted the role . He will do what ’ s best for the team to have success .”

and his family . He also appreciates the opportunity to play in front of the Coshocton community . “ Football was a brotherhood here , and I feel very lucky to have been part of it . I ’ ve been blessed to have great coaches too .”
At Coshocton , Nelson was a three-year letterman in football and a two-year letterman in basketball . He was a key member of the offensive receiver group that helped Coshocton win its first football playoff game in four years this past season .
“ Tucker exemplified the ideal student-athlete ,” said Tim Fortney , athletic director at Coshocton . “ He has demonstrated outstanding leadership both in the classroom and on the field throughout his career at Coshocton . We all wish him the best of luck this fall at Marietta College .”
Marietta is part of the Ohio Athletic Conference and is a Div . III school .
“ Tucker looked at lots of schools , and when he decided on football , he narrowed his search to smaller ones ,” said his mother , Jennifer Nelson . “ He had his top three , but when we went down to Marietta to visit , it felt right . I ’ m thrilled he made this decision . This is a really exciting time

for him .”
His father , Scott , is very proud of him and his decision . “ I ’ m ecstatic about his choice ,” he said . “ He picked it because of the people he met and the way he was treated . The schools were similar academically , but the people set Marietta apart , the way they treated him and the interest the coaches showed .”
Like his son , Scott also is very appreciative of the community supporting Coshocton football and the coaches who looked out for the best interests of the kids on and off the field .
Nelson encouraged his younger teammates to continue chasing their goals . “ Do your best and take advantage of all the opportunities you can ,” he said .
