and changing consumption patterns, the
circular economy also offers little barrier to
entry of entrepreneurs at certain levels of
the value chain such as waste collection,
transportation, sorting and recycling are
yet capacious.
Waste conversion is an underdeveloped
phase of the waste management cycle
in Nigeria, yet it offers great prospects in
terms of youth employment and revenue
generation. Power generation from MSW,
fertilizer production from municipal waste
and sewage, repurposing of plastic bottles
and materials are some of the ideas and
opportunities that question our quest for
self-preservation and development. All
stakeholders, especially government and the discerning private sector all have to
play a part in ensuring the value of waste
is appropriately mined, through research,
partnerships, legislation, re-orientation,
enforcement, and the establishment of a
system that rewards and fosters a clean
and healthy environment.
