FOR THE LOVE OF... THE ARTS M BY HANNAH MCCLELLAND egan Spears, freshman, first transitioned from soccer to the performing arts in fifth grade, “I would watch other people perform and sing and I knew how badly I wanted to do that.” Seeing others having fun inspired Megan to pursue the arts. Spears was thrilled when she started singing, dancing and acting. “I felt like I had a way to express myself and grow as a person… It made me more determined and a happier person over all.” FOR THE LOVE OF... KARATE BY HANNAH MCCLELLAND “Karate is a life outside of school, family, and friends.” said Jackson. Karate provides a place for Jackson to be herself and lets her have fun doing something she loves. Karate has also helped Jackson become more outgoing and confident in her abilities, “I didn’t know how good I was at [karate] and I started to believe in myself and it became a real passion. Karate feels like a part of me,” says Jackson, “It’s a time to focus on me and do what I love.” Finding a way to relate with others, Spears has only grown to love the arts more and more. “The arts meet as a standard of something I love because its a way to connect to the world,” said Spears, “Music is one of the few things that is universal.” Megan’s advice to those looking to pursue their passion is, “Putting yourself out there can sometimes be scary, but the outcome can be beautiful and amazing.” Student Profile Page 9
