Maricopa Golf Classic 2015: Helping Wounded Warriors and First Responders It started out as a collective venture to raise money for Republican candidates in 2008. It then became a charity going into its 8th year, having raised $60,000 and becoming a part of local tradition. On April 11th, the Maricopa Golf Classic will once again be tee-ing it up to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project, and the 100 Club of Arizona, an organization that assists first responders and their families who have been injured in-the-line of duty, or who have lost their lives. Held at The Duke at Rancho El Dorado, the goal for this year is to raise at least $6,000 for each organization. Event Chairman, Marty Hermanson, says the committee is already working together and has high expectations for 2015. “The Tournament in April of 2015 will be our best yet,” said Hermanson. “Players will get a goody bag filled with good stuff, a round of golf, continental breakfast, lunch, and a lot of fun.” Hermanson says, sponsors will get recognized with signage on the course and on the website. There will be a putting contest where someone can win $50,000 and a hole-in-one prize at each of the par 3s including a chance to win $10,000 for a hole in one on Hole #5. Even if you are the kind of golfer that really only hits for par in a miniature golf course, Hermanson wants to invite golfers of any skill level to enjoy the day. “My own golf swing has gotten worse over the years,” Hermanson said. “Our tournament welcomes all golfers because it is a scramble so everyone will have fun.” Even if an individual absolutely cannot golf and wants to be involved, volunteers are needed or individuals may purchase a lunch ticket for $25. There will also be raffles, silent auctions, and opportunities to donate.
