Melonhead Softball Tourney planned for late 2015
Inspired by the impromptu softball tournament late in 2014 to
help the Benner family as their
daughter Emerie fought cancer,
Rich Vitiello will be teaming
with the Melonhead Foundation
to bring back the tournament
later this year. The locally based

charity, Melonhead Foundation
is headed up by resident Deb Leone and was started after her own
daughter, Melanie, passed from Leukemia over 20 years ago. Leone
knows first-hand the financial and emotional difficulties families
endure, as they have to take time from work while also dealing with
medical costs.
The Foundation has helped 525 families with 100 percent of the
fundraising going to families in Arizona. They have four major
fundraising events throughout the year, including a pancake breakfast and auction held at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino every August.
Vitiello will be looking for residents and sponsors to help organize
the event, with a goal of doubling the totals of the 2014 one-day
softball tourney that brought in roughly $3,500.
