Jen’s fight, and hope...
by J’aime Rubio
There are so many people suffering from serious conditions that are in dire need of a
service animal. One young lady who is facing this difficult struggle is Jennifer Rose.
Born with Cerebral Palsy, Jennifer has battled obstacles since birth, having overcome
many complications over the years. Jennifer suffers from not one, but several serious
disorders such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Supraventricular
Tachycardia (SVT), Atrial Septic Defect (ASD) and Epilepsy. Through all of this, she has been a “warrior”, fighting for her life.
“We are trying to raise the funds so we can get her the dog that she needs desperately,” Jennifer’s mother, Debbie explains. Because
of Jennifer’s epileptic seizures, the type of service animal that she needs is often known as “seizure alert dog.” This type of service
animal is trained to act as a type of alarm system, sometimes even being able to predict seizures within minutes to seconds before
they occur. These amazing animals are the protectors and helpers who are trained to bark when a seizure is happening in order
to alert family members. They are also trained to activate alarm devices that immediately notifies emergency medical assistance.
Many of these dogs will literally lay their bodies down to break the fall of the seizing person, ultimately saving the person from any
further injuries.
Unfortunately, training the service dogs for the tasks they perform is expensive for those in need. Right now Debbie is in desperate
need of your help for her daughter, Jennifer. You can read Jennifer’s own personal story on her website and see how you can make a
difference in her life. You will also see how important even the smallest donation could make in helping to meet the goal of
providing Jennifer with her own personal service dog. Her website, www.servicedogforjen.com, tells more about her courageous
battles and how you can donate. Please also visit her Facebook group page, “Service Dog for Jen”. Here at ‘The Copa’, we want to
make sure that we spread the word, giving the opportunity to everyone to help the Rose family reach their goal for Jennifer!
