A MESSAGE FROM A . I . M . MUTUAL ’ S BOARD OF DIRECTORS
In a recent annual report to policyholders , Michael Standing shared that quote below from a former US Secretary of Defense . In Mike ’ s view , those words reflected A . I . M . Mutual ’ s approach to business .
Mike passed away on October 27 , 2021 following an illness he had been battling a long while . To his wife , Maureen , and two sons , Andrew and Nathaniel , we extend heartfelt sympathies and our assurance that Mike ’ s legacy at the company he led is firmly in place .
As President & CEO , he set high expectations for A . I . M . Mutual in the workers ’ compensation space , and he credited the colleagues he worked with for meeting , even surpassing , them . Mike joined A . I . M . Mutual in 2012 as Vice President and was elected President the following year . He became Chief Executive Officer on January 1 , 2015 .
Mike provided a “ larger than life ” leadership presence . He confidently accepted new challenges , knowing that his team would deliver , no matter how audacious the objective . Meanwhile , he could warm the room with a quip , an " atta-boy ,” or a smile .
Mike was candid about his health , and with his family ’ s permission , we can put that in context . Mike was awaiting a major procedure with an extended recovery period . In anticipation , we approved an executive structure to keep operations moving efficiently and without interruption during this period . That structure remains in place .
Specifically , effective October 1 , Daniel Landers was elected Vice President-Chief Operating Officer , and Paul Kehoe , Vice President-Chief Financial Officer , assumed additional responsibilities . These appointments streamline operations at the executive level , with both Dan and Paul reporting to the Board of Directors . Senior leadership retains responsibility for strategic planning and implementation , with Abi Troy , VP-Operations ; Glen Pitruzzello , VP-Claim ; and Teri Bowman , Director-HR continuing in that role along with Dan and Paul . This executive structure fully allows us to meet our obligations and move forward with 2022 initiatives .
While our organization grieves , know that our service delivery will be seamless , thanks to the team of professionals Mike was proud to call his colleagues .
