t is with great pleasure that we celebrate Bobby Henry as the recipient of the 2020 John C . Garth Person of the Year Award from the Bell County Judge and Commissioners ’ Committee on People with Disabilities Annual “ Rusty Awards .” The awards honor people like Bobby who are living extraordinary lives with disabilities , as well as those who advocate and care for them .
Bobby has dedicated almost three decades of his life to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children ’ s Medical Center as part of the Environmental Services team , ensuring a clean space where our patients and families can heal . A children ’ s hospital can be a difficult place to work , as families receive heart-breaking diagnoses and children fight for their lives . However , with his bright smile and unwavering dedication , Bobby comforts and inspires both staff and patients .
Bobby ’ s teammates remark that he is both dependable and flexible . Even through many transitions , especially those necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic , Bobby has handled the changes gracefully , serving as a positive influence for his colleagues .
“ I ’ ve known Bobby for more than nine years ,” says Dr . Lucia , Chief Medical Officer for McLane Children ’ s . “ During this very difficult year , Bobby has taught me some great lessons . There have been a lot of changes and a lot of stress , particularly in the healthcare setting , but Bobby has kept a great attitude and a great work ethic . He has never wavered , despite the turbulence around him . That is something I strive to emulate .”
Bobby leaves lasting impressions on the people around him , and many patients and families often comment on his friendly demeanor . In fact , one family who donated to the recent expansion at McLane Children ’ s requested to have a room named after Bobby . At the surprise reveal of the room , the mayor declared October 28 , 2019 to be Bobby Henry Day in the City of Temple .
Bobby ’ s unique abilities make him perfect for the place he has carved for himself — bringing joy to those around him . We are proud to celebrate him as the John C . Garth Person of the Year for 2020 . Congratulations , Bobby !
