After graduating, Mr. Getterman
joined his father-in-law’s business, the

Texas. Their sons also joined the family
business in the late 1970s. After Mr.
Getterman served two terms as mayor of
Waco, the couple sold the franchise and
set out to see the world, visiting more
than 30 countries.
“The planning is the most fun part
of traveling,” Mrs. Getterman says, “but
there’s truly no place like home. Of all
the places we’ve been, we love Waco
the best, although Pebble Beach was a
close second.”
