Letter from the Chair

When we think of the concept of community , we think in terms of inclusion . It ’ s not “ them ” and “ theirs ,” it ’ s “ ours .” Our neighborhoods . Our schools . Our churches . At the very heart of this concept is the knowledge that everyone plays a role . Everyone is a valuable part . And Baylor Scott & White Health is committed to taking care of us all .
I ’ ve always been interested in the delivery of healthcare to the community — the entire community . Whether it ’ s underserved populations , expectant families , patients battling cancer or any other healthcare need , Baylor Scott &
White is committed to advancing the health and well-being of all those it is privileged to serve .
For those in our community who are underinsured , underserved and may rely on the emergency department as their primary caregiver , Baylor Scott & White has efforts like our Community Care Clinics and the Health and Wellness Center , which were both highlighted in our most recent Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation board meeting . We are breaking down barriers and bringing healthcare to the communities most in need by providing education , outreach and a medical home . These efforts are strengthening the lives of our most at-risk Texans .
Our efforts on the family front are equally impactful . Whether the baby arrives full-term and healthy or is delivered prematurely and with health issues , the Level IV NICU at Baylor University Medical Center is prepared to take care of our tiniest patients . Baylor Scott & White has made it a priority to provide the highest level of care for newborns with specialty-trained staff , advanced equipment and family-centered care .
I am proud of the role Baylor Scott & White plays in developing innovative treatments to fight cancer . Whether patients are just starting their journey or are long into their battle , each can rely on Baylor Scott & White to provide advanced therapies and care , like the breakthrough clinical trial results shared by Dr . Ronan Kelly in this issue of The Compass .
One of my favorite parts of this role at the Foundation is the opportunity to hear the stories of care received at Baylor Scott & White — the life-changing impact it has and the sincere gratitude expressed by those patients . As noted in this issue , we are working to deliver quality outcomes across a broad spectrum for our entire community , and these stories validate that we are delivering on our mission . And that ’ s a good thing for one and all .
