Letter from Leadership

The 100-day mark has come and gone since my arrival on February 1 . My wife and I have enjoyed a newfound proximity to our family , rekindled old and started new friendships and explored restaurants for the best enchiladas . In addition , it has been inspiring to meet many of you , learn more about what motivates your generous giving of time and resources , and hear about your transformational experiences with our physicians and nurses . It is great to be back in Texas and even better to be at Baylor Scott & White Health .
My explorations have also taken me to
Baylor Scott & White facilities across Dallas and Collin counties , providing me the opportunity to walk the hallways and see our mission in motion at Baylor University Medical Center , the Health and Wellness Center in South Dallas , and our campuses in Plano , Frisco and Waxahachie . The unwavering commitment to service at each of these facilities was palpable . As I drove across North Texas to meetings with donors , community advocates and Baylor Scott & White leaders , I reflected on our value , we serve faithfully , and one of my favorite quotes from Roger Staubach : “ There are no traffic jams along the extra mile .”
There have been many extra miles logged by both Baylor Scott & White employees and generous members of the community who support our efforts . In this issue alone you will read about the community health workers who are making countless phone calls to help our underserved populations sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine and also taking the time to understand community members ’ fears
and barriers to care . You will see how the generous gift from the Hamon Charitable Foundation is helping pave the way for an expansion of these efforts that will positively impact thousands of individuals and families . You will learn how the continued commitment of Dr . Ronan Kelly and countless others across our System are advancing research and treatments for patients battling cancer .
These stories are just a few of the countless extra miles logged for patients , colleagues and the communities we serve I have witnessed in just 100 days .
I am grateful to be on this journey alongside you and look forward to sharing stories of extraordinary progress , compassion and care with you through this column and The Compass . Thank you for your faithful service and support as we continue to go the extra mile for one another .
