Letter from
the President
After almost 60
columns, it’s time
to say goodbye.
My last day as president of the Foundation
is Tuesday, June 30, 2020. On July 1,
I will transition to a new role as special
advisor to Baylor Scott & White Health
and the Foundation.
The coronavirus continues to dominate
the news, disrupt our lives, our businesses,
and introduces us into a decidedly
abnormal normal. A columnist recently
said, “We as humans attempt to construct
stories to derive meaning from uncertainty
and purpose from chaos. We crave simple
narratives, but the pandemic offers none.”
A recent article suggested that
“Science offers a simple and effective way
to bolster our own emotional health.
To help yourself, start by helping others.”
Not surprisingly, our patrons have
embraced this sentiment and have shown
their true colors by supporting Baylor
Scott & White and their professionals with
millions of dollars in support over the last
several weeks.
To our many patrons: you inspired me
with your commitment to invest in change
for the better. You challenged me to be
creative and resilient. You reinforced the
value and importance of building personal,
human relationships. You reminded me
about the worth of listening and engaging
in meaningful conversations. Thanks for
your investment in me. It’s been a privilege
to work with you.
Thanks to the team for bringing their
best to work every day. Thanks for being
the epitome of professionalism. Thanks for
your perseverance and integrity. Thanks
for your friendship and support. Thanks for
your trust and staying true to our mission.
It has been a privilege to serve as
president of the Baylor Scott & White
Dallas Foundation for almost 15 years. I am
proud that during that time, the Foundation
has provided over $540 million in support
toward important Baylor initiatives.
In conclusion, I want to share a
simple ad I saw about a beach in Florida.
It captures my feelings:
“Together we’ll get through this.
The sun shines on.
But what really warms our [my] heart
is the thought of seeing you again
when the coast is clear.”
While this is a change, it isn’t goodbye,
and I look forward to when our paths cross
again. All my good wishes are with you.
Grateful!
