Letter from the President
Heraclitus , a Greek philosopher , said , “ There is nothing permanent except change .” This feels like an important lesson as we all maneuver through the next phase of pandemic life . How quickly we ’ ve adapted to making changes in our daily schedules , rescheduling travel plans , and recognizing one another through an N95 mask .
We are in the midst of a leadership change — Jim Hinton completed his duties as CEO on December 31 and his successor , Pete McCanna , began January
2022 . While Pete ’ s not new to Dallas or Baylor Scott & White , having served as president since 2017 , we welcome him to his new role as CEO .
Jim and Pete can hang their hats on many collaborative successes , including leading through the pandemic while continuing to provide essential healthcare services for patients across our communities , improving the health of our balance sheet and finances , and proving that a Dallas Cowboys fan and Green Bay Packers fan can work together !
I have heard each express a common commitment for our Christian mission of healing and a sincere belief in Baylor Scott & White ’ s core values : We serve faithfully , We act honestly , We never settle and We are in it together . These phrases are not just something to add to the website , display on your desk or quote conveniently . As Pete rolls up his sleeves , refines strategies and builds out his team , expect to hear a lot about sharpening our focus on the people we serve . In addition , you ’ ll hear
Pete talk about the critical role philanthropy plays in his plans — sharing recently with the BSW Dallas Foundation board that he sees philanthropy “ as the key element for excellence in a healthcare organization .”
So , in a world full of change , I believe two things will not change : Baylor Scott & White ’ s relentless focus on high-quality patient care and the Foundation ’ s critical role in powering the programs and people driving the solutions .
